I Built You a House
They say the words you speak become the house you live in.
So I think I will build you a humble cottage by the sea.
I’ll raise the frame as I encourage you, urging you to go after your dreams.
While I lay the foundation, you pack your bags.
I will sweat and ache as my words become each beam.
I will panel the side, calculated and level, constructed with intention,
Each nail placed with purpose.
Out loud, I will paint it the pale blue of your eyes.
I will scatter my favorite adjectives like seeds, water them with emphasis, repetition, and watch the wildflowers grow in the garden.
Most importantly, I will speak in open doors.
Won’t you come home?
